Four people last evening died in Masaka road accident and several others rushed to Masaka hospital in critical conditions following an accident along Masaka –Kampala Highway.

The deceased have been identified as Abdukarimu Mbogga a resident of Bukomansimbi district, Pauline Kabazoba, James Katabazi and the fourth person is yet to be identified since he did not have identification documents. The injured people (five) are undergoing treatment at Masaka referral hospital.

The accident occurred at Lwera in Lukaya town council along Masaka Kampala highway when a speeding saloon car (premo) registration number UAB 719B that was traveling from Masaka to Kampala collided with a taxi registration number UAW 045U that was heading to Masaka from Kampala.

According to eye witnesses the accident was caused by the driver of the saloon car who disappeared shortly after causing the accident as he was trying to overtake a truck that was a head of him and he landed head on with the on coming taxi.

Southern Region Traffic Police Commander James Tebaijuka has attributed the accident to reckless driving by the driver of the saloon car who wanted to overtake a truck when he was not clearly seeing where he was going hitting another vehicle.

He says that police is hunting for the two drivers of the vehicles that were involved in the accident to help police with investigations into the cause of the accident.

Tebaijuka says that police has not yet identified the victims since they were serious injured in the accident and some of them lacked proper identification documents and others had been lost during the accident.

The vehicles that were involved in the accident have been towed to Lukaya police station as investigations into the cause of the accident and the hunt for escaped drivers goes on.
