Government is advised to start taxing idle land in urban areas if the land resource is to be used to spur the country’s economic growth.

Speaking at the launch of the 6th Uganda Economic Update in Kampala this morning, Frank Byamugisha a financial consultant said land can no doubt support the country’s prosperity drive if the existing gaps in policy and legislation are addressed.

He has also suggested that government makes land easily transferable to catalyses resource flow from low to high productive activities.

Meanwhile, in a statement read for him by the Lands Permanent Secretary Gabindadde Musoke, Minister Daudi Migereko has promised to improve land utilization through improved settlements.

He has also promised to ensure effective implementation of the land policy.

The 6thupdate focused on whether or not Uganda’s land supports its prosperity drive.
