The government has dismissed claims by human rights organizations linking crime preventers to the ongoing campaign violence.
This comes a day after a group of human rights organisations including Human Rights Watch, Chapter Four Uganda and Human Rights Network among others called for the immediate suspension of recruitment of crime preventer.
The bodies accused the crime preventers of being partisan and being used to suppress opposition candidates and their supporters.
However reacting to the accusations, the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo says such claims are not new, challenging the organisations to bring evidence rather than make blanket statements.
