Government has been asked to mainstream clean cooking in all its ministries and departments.

The call is made by the Uganda National Alliance on Clean Cooking (UNACC) which is spear heading a campaign to achieve the 100% clean cooking target in Uganda by 2020.

The alliance’s national coordinator Alfred Kusiima is calling for synergy and cooperation between different ministries and stakeholders to expedite formation of favourable policies that will increase up take of clean cooking solutions.

Kusiima tells KFM that this will increase their provision and adoption at households and all other sectors where cooking and similar thermal processes take place.

He says 90% of Uganda’s rural population does not have clean cook stoves or clean fuels such as biogas or LPG despite the existence of Government and development partners interventions.

This means that the majority of citizens are exposed to Indoor Air Pollution, a situation closely associated with several ailments and health effects.

To reverse this trend, a meeting of key stakeholders is currently underway at the ministry of energy to review work plans and budgets of the inter- ministerial committee on clean cooking and mainstream clean cooking in government ministries, departments and agencies.
