Government is still looking for funds to facilitate the rehabilitation of Salaam school for the blind where 12 students lost their lives in a fire last year.

The Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Museveni says although the school is still grappling with several challenges, government is still looking for funds to have it rehabilitated.

She says the government will continue to facilitate the required resources as it sets plans to have it fully rehabilitated.

The minister made the remarks while officiating at the opening of a girls’ dormitory which was constructed by MTN Foundation.

“I have now heard the challenges that are still here from the head teacher and the RDC. I don’t want to make promises here but what I can say is that we are going to do everything we can to make available what we can to this school so that those challenges can become less if not history,” Ms Museveni said.

MTN Uganda’s chief executive officer, Ms Sylvia Mulinge says the company’s decision to set up the facility is in fulfilment of its commitment to touching the lives of the population.

She is optimistic that the dormitory will ensure the safety of learners.

This development comes nearly one year since 12 visually impaired girls were burnt to death in the dormitory.
