The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson, Hajji Moses Kigongo, has criticized Muslims for failing to resolve their religious disputes and instead looking to the president to fight their battles emphasizing that it’s not his responsibility.

Kigongo made these remarks during the funeral of the former Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, who passed away yesterday at Mengo Hospital, aged 61.

The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon at the deceased’s ancestral home in Kirayangoma village, Kisekka Sub-county, Lwengo District.

The deceased’s uncles expressed disappointment with Ndirangwa’s relatives for refusing to perform the Islamic prayer for the deceased at his ancestral home. They urged Muslims to take more responsibility for their religious obligations, condemning the refusal as inappropriate.

Friends of the late cleric praised him for his diligent service and calm demeanor.

Various clerics led by Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo praised the late Mufti for among other things; creating job opportunities for them.

Meanwhile Kigongo, who represented the President at the funeral, urged Muslims to focus more on healing old wounds inflicted by divisions rather than igniting new battles.

“I acknowledge the Muslim community’s challenges but encourage those who still have the chance to reconsider their actions and make positive changes”, he said.

The President went ahead and gave the family of the deceased thirty Million shillings to help them in the burial arrangement.

Among other mourners, Muhammad Nsereko a presidential aspirant 2026, advised the children of the deceased to uphold the legacy of their now late Father and urged Muslim Community to unite for the best of the religion.
