The Inter-Religious Council has resounded a warning politicians against commercializing politics especially as presidential campaigns kick off.
Addressing a joint news conference in Kampala this morning, the religious leaders said this is denying the electorate an opportunity to have leaders of their choice.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace Stanley Ntagali says many politicians have been seen bribing voters unabated.
Ntagali says the public should also unite and vote out all leaders that attempt to bribe them.
He says the community should step beyond allowing tokens to making informed choices and knowing that voting is an inherent right.
Meanwhile in a separate development, High Court Judge Justice Alphonse Owinyi Dolo has asked civil society organizations to sensitize citizens on their rights ahead of the 2016 general elections.
He was flagging off the third Anti-Corruption Caravan which is set to cover the western region running under the theme ‘A vote sold is a service Denied’! Reject vote buying now!
He says the civil society should play its role through helping the community to vote leaders of their choice.
He has also blamed corruption for ruining the development of the country’s economy.
The Anti-corruption caravan is annually organized by Action Aid Uganda and moves across the country in a bid to empower masses to curb corruption in the country.
