Invisible Children has announced that it will close its headquarters in the United States next year.

In a statement issued by the organisation’s communications director, Noelle West, it will also transfer its African-based operations, including in Uganda to local partners. Noelle says the staff in the U.S. office will be cut from 21 to four before the end of the year, while the number of staff working in Africa will be scaled down from 20 to 10 in March.

She attributes this to increasing difficulty to fundraise funds to sustain the organisation’s programmes in Africa and the US.

Invisible Children was thrust into the spotlight in 2012 when it released the popular Kony 2012 who wanted to raise awareness about Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army.
