Taxi drivers on strike

A group of Taxi drivers has stormed Kampala city hall protesting the decision to hold election for a new leadership of the city taxi drivers’ association.
This follows yesterday’s  meeting by taxi drivers, head of police operations Felix Kaweesi and security minister Muruuli Mukasa.
During the meeting, it was agreed that the elections go on today as planned at Nakivubo Stadium contrary to the position of the city executive director Jennifer Musisi.
Musisi had already organized elections for the drivers on the 29th of November.
The drivers however maintain that the decision reached is not binding and insist that they will go on with the 29th planned elections.
Meanwhile at Nakivubo, police is heavily deployed at the stadium as the drivers prepare to start the voting exercise.
