The Judiciary will tomorrow hold a special Supreme Court session at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala to honor the late Justice George Kanyeihamba, who passed away on July 14, 2025.

The late Kanyeihamba, was a renowned jurist, academic, and politician.

Born on August 11th, 1939, in Kinaba, Kigezi District, Prof. Kanyeihamba graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from Portsmouth University and a Doctorate of Laws from the University of Warwick.

He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda from 1997 to 2009 and was elected as one of the first judges of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

He also served as Chancellor of Kampala International University and Kabale University, and lecturer at various universities.

He authored several books, including “Kanyeihamba’s Commentaries on Law, Politics and Governance” and “Constitutional Law and Government in Uganda”

He demonstrated strong commitment to constitutionalism, justice, and human rights throughout his life, known for integrity, moral leadership, and bravery in upholding the independence of the Judiciary.
