Kadaga and Rukutana

Political will is needed to enhance livelihoods of Ugandans.

The chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection, Flavia Kabahenda says leaders should push for the interests of vulnerable persons.

Speaking at the launch of the forum today, Kabahenda notes that there are several programmes that have been championed by government but it does not reach the intended beneficiaries.

She says the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment programme which provides a monthly stipend of 25,000 to older persons aged 65 and above in 14 districts, should be strengthened.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga launched the forum but questioned why some regions, such as Busoga have not yet benefitted from the programme.
