The death toll from the Kampiringisa accident has risen to 17.

According to the Officer in Charge of Traffic in Mpigi district Ms Edith Nanteza, the death toll could rise further because several other people are severely injured.

She adds that majority of the dead were taxi passengers.

Ms Nanteza says the bodies of the deceased and the injured have been taken to Mulago and Mpigi hospitals, though their identities are yet to be established.

The accident occurred this evening at Kampiringisa along the Kampala Masaka Highway involving 2 commuter taxis, Registration Numbers UAN 443P & UAX781N, one trailer Reg. No. KBN 298X / ZD5 983 and a Noah Reg. No UAS 567C

The OC Traffic has blamed the accident on reckless driving on the part of the driver of the Noah.
