By Damali Mukhaye.

Kasese district leaders have blamed the government for the ongoing clashes in the district.

On Thursday last week, fresh violence broke out between the royal guards locally known as the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu and the police.

Speaking to KFM, the Member of Parliament for Busongora County in Kasese district William Nzoghu said if the UPDF and Police had not attacked the Rwenzururu kingdom offices on Saturday, no one would have been killed.

The killings have been spreading throughout the district with similar attacks recorded in a number of counties.

According to Nzoghu, the physical confrontation by government forces has caused tension and unrest in the district and has led to distrust of government’s motives.

At a press conference at the police headquarters in Naguru yesterday, police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi said the death toll had risen to 55, warning that they have adopted a shoot to kill policy when confronted by civilians in Kasese.
