The widow of slain city businessman Eriya Bugembe Sebunya, also known as Kasiwukira is a free woman after the High Court in Kampala acquitted her of his murder.

Sarah Nabikolo has been acquitted by High Court Judge Masalu Musene on grounds that she wasn’t involved in the murder of her husband, Kasiwukira.

However, her cousin, Sandra Nakungu and Ashraf Jaden, a police officer at Muyenga Community Police Station have been convicted of the said murder.
The presiding judge said the two had a common intention to kill Kasiwukira.

According to the judge, Ashraf knocked Kasiwukira and therefore was guilty of murder.
They have each been handed a 20 year jail term which the judge says is a deterrent sentence for other would be offenders.

Kasiwukira was hit by a car, which sped off after the incident on the morning of October 17, 2014 as he was jogging in the neighbourhood of Muyenga, a Kampala suburb.
At the time, the police referred to it as an “intentional run over”, but two months later, the three main convicts, Nabikolo, Nakungu and Jaden were charged with murder.

Kasiwukira is remembered for his critical role in the development of the local music industry.
He was the first person to duplicate songs of different artistes onto cassette tapes in the early 1980s, which tapes he would brand with his logo “Kasiwukira” and then have hawkers sell them around the city.

At the time of his death, he was the deputy treasurer of the Kwagalana group (a group that is known as the rich men’s club in Kampala).
