By Amos Ngwomoya:

The battle for Centenary Park has taken a new twist with Kampala Capital City Authority and Nalongo estates now embroiled in a dispute over management of the facility.

According to Daily Monitor, the new row stems from the alleged erection of permanent structures by Nalongo estates on top of the sewer lines that were recently installed by National Water and Sewerage Corporation.

The new structures have since angered KCCA who accuse Nalongo estates of defying the President’s directive of not erecting permanent structures at the facility.

According to the Internal Memo from the central division physical planner, Villey Agaba to the KCCA director of Physical Planning Moses Atwine, dated August 18 2017, the illegal works are being carried out at three restaurants on top of sewage and within leeway of the newly laid sewer line.

Following the protracted battles between KCCA and Nalongo estates in July, President Museveni intervened and met both parties at State House.

He directed that Nalongo Estates be left to manage the place which will not be affected by the installation of sewer lines, a power substation and a flyover.
