The absence of Local Council (LC) chairpersons at many registration points threatens to disrupt the ID project.

In Buikwe district, the mass registration exercise has been disrupted after Local Council chairpersons pulled out of the exercise due to lack of payments and appointment letters.
The LC chairpersons are demanding that they be paid all the money which they have worked for ever since the
exercise started, and also to be given appointment letters. They claim they were promised Shs 300,000 per month
which they have not yet received to date.

At a meeting held in Lugazi town between the LC 1 Chairpersons and the Buikwe District Returning Officer Ronald Nsereko, the LCs were shocked when they were told that the said Shs 300.000 is meant to pay all LC chairperson in a particular parish but not individuals.
Musoke Muhammad the LC chairperson for Kikawula Village in Lugazi town council wondered how someone can sit at a registration center from Monday to Sunday, morning to evening and get that little pay.

While Ben Kawule of Lugazi central said they can no longer do any other income generating activity and that they had hoped to make some reasonable amount for the service offered during the exercise.

Speaking to KFM, Buikwe district chairman Matthias Kigongo asked the minister concerned to urgently address the matter to avoid registration ineligible persons.

The storty is the same in Iganga district Buyanga Sub County, where 33 Lc1 chairpersons have decide to shun their supervisory role in identity card registration due law pay.

Earlier, the ministry of internal affairs deputy spokesperson Benjamin Katana said some of the village leaders who are demanding payment were not accredited to do the job.
