The state minister for disability affairs, Hellen Asamo has urged leaders to support persons with disabilities to realize their potential.
She made the remarks while speaking to the media ahead of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities that is celebrated every year on 3rd December.
The National celebrations will be held in Kole district at Kole Primary school playground under the theme: ” Leadership and Mindset Change; a tool for inclusive development”
The minister asked leaders at all levels to fight stereotypes and misconceptions against the PWDs through community sensitisation, explaining that this will support the efforts towards an inclusive society.
According to the statistics from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics 2016, Uganda has a population of over 6 million people living with disabilities of which 49.26% are male and 50.74% female.
