The long awaited Constitutional Amendment Bill 2015 has been tabled on the floor of parliament for the first reading.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya has directed that the bill be sent to the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for scrutiny.

While tabling the bill several opposition MPs led by the Leader of Opposition Wafula Ogutu raised concern over failure by government to consider the amendments proposed by civil society and the opposition.

However, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Gen. Kahinda Otafire, on behalf of government promised to take action on the concerns of the opposition and if need be consult them.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanya has called for commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the constitutional amendments bill is handled expeditiously right after the policy statements.

He has applauded the executive for finally coming up with the long awaited bill.
Oulanya has also put an embargo on all travels of committee members until this bill is finalized.
