Lukwago at High Court

Embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago now has all his hopes in the Supreme Court.

He has filed an application seeking a mandatory injunction to allow him perform the duties of the lord mayor.

He is also seeking an order restraining the Electoral Commission from holding a by-elections to fill his position until his major petition contesting the tribunal report is disposed of.

Lukwago also wants the Supreme Court to overturn the Court of Appeal order that saw him kicked out of office just after he reclaimed it yesterday. The application is yet to be fixed for hearing.

Yesterday, Court of Appeal Judge Stephen Kavuma overturned a ruling by the High Court on Friday, which had cleared the way for Erias Lukwago to resume duties.

A tribunal had found the mayor guilty of incompetence and abuse of office.

He was voted out by city councilors in November following that verdict, but has been challenging it ever since.

Lukwago’s legal team is headed by Bugweri County Member of Parliament Abdul Katuntu.
