Calm has returned to Makerere University, which had earlier turned chaotic following a strike by the students.

The students protested around the university demanding resumption of lectures.

The students have not had lectures for two weeks now, after the lecturers went on strike.

Led by the guild leadership, the students has converged at the Main Gate demanding to be addressed on their fate before they could disperse.

Our reporter at the university however says the students have dispersed on their own and environment remains calm, though it is difficult to predict what will happen next.

The police remains heavily deployed in and around the university.

A section of lecturers have resumed work today, while others insist on continuing with their strikle.

The lecturers under the Makerere University Academic Staff Association are divided on whether or not to proceed with their strike that has gone on for 2weeks now.

Where as the association chairperson Tanga Odoi has called off the strike, a section of the teaching staff want it to continue as they demand a pay rise, with the least paid lecturer recieving 8 million Shillings.
