You probably have seen children whose head size is slightly bigger than normal.

This condition called Hydrocephalus which literally means “water on the brain” occurs when fluid builds up in the skull and causes the brain to swell.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke estimates that this condition affects one in every 500 children in Uganda.

Hydrocephalus mainly occurs in children and adults over 60, but young adults can get it too.

Experts say it can lead to impaired development of physical and intellectual functions and requires specialized treatment to prevent serious complications.

This morning KFM’s Dianah Wanyana tells the story of 8 year old Annet Ntukunda.
