A section of Members of Parliament on the Natural Resources Committee has cited connivance in the ongoing illegal sand mining in Lwera, Kalungu district.

This is after they met the District Environment Officer during their visit to Lwera sand mining site on Thursday and he denied having any prior knowledge about operations of Seroma Company which was found to be operating without a license.

The MPs have learnt from the fact finding mission that Seroma is one of the 3 companies that have been licensed to do sand mining in Lwera.

One of the committee members and Kashari North MP Wilberforce Yaguma accused the environment officer Mr.Richard Vvuba of conniving with the said company, arguing that there was no way such a huge project would continue without his knowledge.

He then asked that the matter be taken on by the police, prompting a bitter exchange between the two.

Mr. Vvuba later told the committee that one of the companies has since opted out after finding the area it had procured not viable.

He has identified the other two as Heshaduo Company and Lwera sand dealers all owned by Chinese.

Vvuba also revealed that Seroma had since been directed to stop operations.
