Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) has suspended a planned strike to welcome the Pope who jets into Uganda later today.
The association resolved this in a general meeting held last evening.
The group had threatened to go on strike over nonpayment of their incentives for the last four months.
MUASA chairman Dr.Mohammed Kiggundu says the Pope’s visit is a blessing to the country and therefore it must be respected.
However, he says the University administers must pay the workers their incentives being demanded before January next year.
However, in a statement, then University Vice Chancellor Prof Ddumba Ssentamu, says the incentives were not paid because of late payment of tuition fees by students.
He however explains that payments were made for two months and efforts are being made to clear incentives for the 3rd month by Saturday 5th December.
