The 3-day swearing-in ceremony for Members of Parliament has been concluded today, with 374 MPs sworn-in.

The Gomba county MP Rosemary Najemba however has not been sworn in since she is reportedly out of the country on official duty.

The 3-day ceremony was parked with fun and glamour and saw Members of Parliament make several pledges, hoping to make a difference.

The house convenes tomorrow with a major task of electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The ruling NRM has the majority in the 9th Parliament with 275 MPs, followed by FDC which has 30 members. UPC has 10 MPs, DP 9, while JEEMA and the Conservative Party have one member each.

The Independent MPs are 27 in the house.

The MPs are expected to consider Constitutional amendments proposed by President Museveni, as one of their first assignments.

The amendments seek to deny bail to suspects on several cases including rioting, murder, rape and treason among others.

The proposal has however been criticised by legal experts as contrary to the national constitution.
