The annual court vacation starts today and runs for the next one month.

This however does not mean that courts will be totally closed, only criminal cases will be heard during this time and not civil cases.

The court vacation that runs from July 15 to August 15 will only affect the High Court and lower courts.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal/Constitutional Court will begin their vacation on July 30 till end of August.

In emergency situations court can be moved to sit and hear a civil matter.

Such emergency cases include among others land eviction threats, or house evictions of a bigger population.

Judiciary’s Senior Communications Officer Solomon Muyita, confirmed the beginning of the annual court vacation.

The practice was inherited from the colonial judges who used to travel back to UK to visit their families.
