Ugandans who applied for National Identification Cards this week should not expect to get National ID numbers immediately.

This is according to Gilbert Kadilo the National Identification and Registration Authority’s manager public relations and corporate affairs.

He however adds that for those who previously genuinely registered and applied for national IDs and have not received them yet, they can request for the National Identification Number as they wait for the cards.

He also notes that most Ugandans have received their National Identification Cards after the Uganda Communications Commission issued a 7-day ultimatum to have all simcard registration validated using National IDs.

According to Kadilo, they have produced over 16m National IDs all together since they first embarked on the registration exercise in 2014.

Out of this over 14 million cards have so far been issued to their owners while over 1.5million are yet to be collected.
