The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has commended Shartis Kuteesa for stepping down in favor of Sodo Kaguta, President Museveni’s younger brother, in the Sembabule constituency parliamentary race.
Shartis, daughter of former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa and Sodo were both nominated last week to compete for the party parliamentary flag in Sembabule.
However, a few days after their nomination, Kuteesa withdrew from the race after meeting with president Museveni who is also the party’s national chairperson.
The NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr.Tanga Odoi said her decision has eased the Commission’s work since there will be no need to organize primaries in the area.
He has dismissed claims that Shartis was forced to step down, saying the matter was resolved amicably through dialogue and that Uganda is bigger than individuals.
