The Ministry of Health has promised to include palliative care health workers on the government payroll.

The Commissioner Clinical Services, Dr.Jacinto Amandwa says palliative care services are key in managing life threatening illnesses.

Dr.Amandwa adds that they also have plans of incorporating the palliative care syllabus into the mainstream health training system.

He was this morning officially opening a two day Palliative Care meeting in Kampala.

Speaking at the same event, the Executive Director Palliative Care Association Uganda, Rose Kiwanuka has applauded the ministry’s decision saying it was long overdue.

Kiwanuka says the move will help push more health workers to join palliative care.
