Members of Parliament will this morning have a special sitting at 10 am to vote on a contentious motion that seeks to censure the minister of state for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Persis Namuganza.

The committee appointed by the deputy speaker of parliament, Thomas Tayebwa to investigate her conduct is expected to present its report.

The seven-member committee chaired by Mbarara south MP, Mwine Mpaka has spent the last 15 days investigating the matter and the embattled minister has not appeared in any of the select committee meetings.

Namuganza is accused of contempt of the House and gross misbehavior. She has since denied any wrongdoing and challenged the petitioners to produce evidence that pins her.

Kagoma North MP who is also the spokesperson of the NRM MPs caucus, Brandon Kintu has since revealed that today’s voting on the censure motion is likely to be done in the open as opposed to a secret ballot.

In the event the MPs support the censure motion, Namuganza will lose her cabinet position but will retain her seat in parliament as Bukono County in Namutumba district.
