Police in Kajjansi is holding a 16-year-old house maid (names withheld) for dumping her newly born child into a pit-latrine.
A resident who had gone to visit the latrine tipped off the police after hearing the baby cry. The child was retrieved with the neighbors identifying the maid as the mother.
Upon her arrest the maid defended her actions saying she dumped the baby because she was defiled and didn’t know the father of the child.
The baby was given first aid at Doctors’ Clinic based in Sseguku, before being transferred to Mulago hospital for a comprehensive checkup.
The 16-year-old has been charged on file number SD: 58/18/05/2017.
