Police will remain heavily deployed at Makerere University until the last student leaves.

Yesterday Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi said the heavy deployment is to ensure maximum security at the University, adding that when the situation normalizes then the university police station will take charge.

Meanwhile, the Officer in charge of Makerere Police Station Jackson Mucunguzi says he has been given reinforcement and this has beefed up security at the university.

The deployment follows a directive issued by President Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday to close the university until further notice.

The closure is a result of a violent strike by students who were protesting a decision by their lecturers to stop teaching until the university council clears their incentive arrears amounting to Shs. 28 billion. The said money has accumulated since February this year.
