The police in Tororo District are investigating circumstances under which a woman died while giving birth at St. Anthony hospital.
Bukedi region police spokesperson Michael Odongo says the probe follows complaints from the deceased’s husband, John Rubamburamanzi that his wife died as a result of negligence by health workers at the facility.
The deceased identified as Helen Akello a resident of Obore ‘’B’’ cell in Malaba town council died on October 2nd while giving birth to twins.
Rubamburamanzi traces the problem right from Tororo hospital where the deceased was attending antenatal services but doctors never detected any complication.
The Medical superintendent St. Anthony hospital Tororo who preferred anonymity acknowledges that there was no doctor to attend to the patient at the time.
The health official adds that since there was no indication in the referral that she was supposed to deliver by Cesarean section, the nurses were relaxed thinking that the pain was normal labor pain.
