Police together with residents of Rweihamba in Kasenda Sub County in Kabarole district are searching for a body of a Probation Police Constable attached to Tourism police who allegedly drowned in Nkuruba Crater Lake as he had gone to swim.

Kabarole district has 56 crater lakes and more than 10 are found in Kasenda Sub County east of the district. Most crater lakes are deep.

According to the Regional Police Commander Rwenzori, Mr. Moses Elieu Osenga said the missing cop No. 62863 Simon Peter hails from Bukedea District and was deployed at Nkuruba Camp Site.

It’s said on Wednesday at around 4pm the cop told his fellow colleague that he was going to swim in the crater lake of Nkuruba and has since gone missing.

The RPC said that his fellows realized later that Simon Peter was not home and it was getting late they went for a search and found his clothes left on the stone near the crater lake before they reported the matter to Rweihamba police post.

The RPC said that the body is yet to float on the lake and they are waiting for experts and equipment to come and search for the body which seems to be trapped in the water.
