As political temperatures rise ahead of the 2026 general elections, aspiring candidates are being advised to undergo medical check-ups before launching their campaigns to ensure they are physically and mentally prepared for the demanding period ahead.
According to Dr. Vincent Karuhanga of Friends Polly Clinic, early health screening can help detect and manage potential health issues that might be worsened by the intense pressure that typically accompanies campaign seasons.
Dr. Karuhanga also stresses the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper nutrition, sufficient sleep, and adequate rest.
“These days, Parliament has become like a business for some individuals. When they perceive a threat of losing their position and not returning, that fear alone can affect them psychologically and trigger the release of substances that activate the fear, fight, and flight response,” said Dr. Karuhanga.
Meanwhile, political parties are abuzz with activity as they gear up for internal elections and delegate conferences.
