The ministry of works and transport reports that all national roads leading to Eastern Uganda have been cut off by the ongoing rains.

The most affected districts include Kotido, Moroto, Lira, Soroti, Tororo, Kabong, Mbale and Katakwi.

According to the ministry’s public relations officer Susan Kataike, the Kotido-Moroto road is impassable while floods have cut off Kotido Lira road.

All roads leading to Amuria have also been cut off and many have joined the river flow. Tororo-Manafwa road is also impassable while Bulambuli, Kwen and Sironko districts are also cut off.

Kataike says the ministry needs 11 billion Shillings just to fix the Moroto-Kotido alone.

She says they are still assessing the damage and will come up with new figures on the actual amount of money needed for repairs.

The ministry says it has sent its officials to the affected places to devise means of making some of the roads usable.
