More detailed information is needed on the daily life situation of people with mental health problems regarding family care and their level of integration into local communities.

According to a Researcher on mental health Kamila Krygier , there are varying attitudes to and the treatment of people with mental illness.

She says according to a recent research they conducted in Northern Uganda, most care takers and relatives of the mentally ill give adequate support to victims.

She however says cases abound of families locking or chaining their relatives, and in some cases the mentally ill are left to roam the streets and survive on their own.

Krygier says mentally ill children are also separated from the rest of the family and are not provided with basic necessities.

She cites other forms of ill treatment as verbal and physical abuse.
