The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga is concerned about the high levels of poverty in Uganda despite government efforts to reverse the trend.

According to the 2016 Poverty Assessment Report by the World Bank, Uganda’s population living below the national poverty line declined from 31.1% in 2006 to 19.7% in 2013.

While announcing the upcoming regional seminar on Sustainable Development Goals scheduled for 1st – to 3rd March in Kampala, Kadaga said many Ugandans are still surviving on less than one dollar a day which is a worrying trend.

She adds that despite the glossy poverty reports, more practical actions are needed to be implemented to lift Ugandans from poverty.
