Human rights activists have criticized President Yoweri Museveni over his remarks on relief food.

While addressing a rally in Busoga on Wednesday, the president warned that spending money on relief food might force government to halt key infrastructure projects.

However, the Executive Director Foundation for Human Rights Initiative Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana tells KFM that there is need to strike a balance between development and addressing needs of the starving communities.

Due to prolonged drought in different parts of the country, hunger has hit Isingiro district and some parts of Teso and Karamoja sub-regions.

Last year, government said at least 1.3 million people in various parts of the country needed food aid urgently after a dry spell destroyed harvests.
