A two-year capacity-building program on the harmonised systems code for customs officers in Uganda and South Sudan ends in March this year with over 90 staff of South Sudan’s National Revenue Authority (NRA) trained.
Upon its inception in April 2020, the project by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) aimed at enhancing capacity of customs tariff collection staff towards adaptation of international standards at main border points including Juba, Nimule, Wau, and Renk.
Dennis Lutaaya, a supervisor for investigations at URA says skilling staff in the latest digital systems will reduce the cost of doing business.
The harmonized systems code seeks to modernize customs procedures by strengthening capacity of customs officers and the capacity of lodgment of customs declaration by clearing agents in line with international standards.
