Salva Kiir Says He Signed The Peace Deal Under Duress

Reporter | September 15, 2015

South Sudan President Salva Kiir says he signed the recent peace deal under duress.
In his televised address to the nation, Kiir says the Peace Agreement signed in August was in violation of the sovereignty of South Sudan.
He says there were many threatening messages to him in the last few weeks before the signing.
Kiir however says he is fully committed to the implementation of the Peace Agreement, but does not rule out hiccups regarding some provisions.
The Peace deal signed by both President Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar is meant end nearly two years of fighting that has claimed lives while thousands have been displaced.
