Security tightened at Congolese boarder

| November 15, 2012

The UPDF has strengthened security at the Congo border point of Bunagana that was closed this week.

The boarder was closed following reports of rebels taxing Ugandan traders to raise funding for their operations.

The UPDF spokesperson Col. Felix Kulaigye says they want to ensure that Ugandans and their property are safe from any possible attacks.

Traders have also been advised to use the North entry boarder point of Butokota in DR Congo.

Col Kulaigye says that boarder will stay closed indefinitely hence the need to use alternatives.

Col Kulaigye says that unless they receive communication from Congolese government giving a clearance to open the border, the situation will stand as it is.
