Atleast seven people are feared to have died and scores others injured and displaced due to landslides caused by a heavy downpour in several parts of Kasese district.

Kasese district Chairperson, Eliphaz Muhindi has confirmed the incident and said a team of experts has been dispatched to the affected areas to ascertain the extent of damage and nature of relief needed by the affected families.

Our correspondent, Joel Kaguta reports from Kasese, ” kasese woke up in shock following a heavy down pour in the area starting from 3:00am until  9:00am in the morning  by 9:30 am we received a report indicating  that number of lives could have been lost following this incident, so far the report says that more than Seven people are likely to have lost their lives, i have tried talking to the district chairperson and he has confirmed that he has received  the same report.” Kaguta said.

This comes as UN humanitarians warn that unprecedented and devastating flooding in East Africa has triggered widespread displacement with hundreds of thousands forced from their homes in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Ethiopia and Tanzania
