By Joseph Omollo

Persons affected by the proposed Multimillion Standard Gauge Railway project in Tororo municipality have expressed their discontent over the delay by government to compensate them for their land.

The angry residents claim that since February when their properties and land were assessed and evaluated, officials handling the project have not been clear on when they are going to be compensated yet they have been barred from making any development on the land.

The affected persons led by Godfrey Omella have now written to the district police commander seeking permission to hold a demonstration as well as hand over their petition to the Speaker of Parliament.

“We are not happy in the manner the compensation process is being handled and its this reason we are seeking permission hold a demonstration to show our dissatisfaction and thereafter proceed to hand over our petitions to office of RDC, LCV and speaker of parliament so that parliament is aware of our concerns’’ Mr. Omella
said.

However the state minister for transport Aggrey Bagire during a recent tour of the area, said government was considering speeding up the process to allow the contractor commence works on the much anticipated railway.

He explained that the compensation process has been delayed by land disputes in some areas like Amagoro and Water village the where one piece of land has multiple owners.
