The admission of South Sudan into the East African Community is still on.

The East African Community says it is still considering an application by South Sudan to join the regional bloc.

South Sudan has since November last year been plunged into civil strife, stemming from fighting between government forces led by SalvaKiir and rebels allied to former Vice President, RiekMachar.

Addressing the media at Parliament, Uganda’s Minister of East African Affairs, Shem Bageine, says despite the turmoil, South Sudan’s application stands and a verification team will be dispatched when the situation normalizes.
