The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)to gazette some roads for cyclists if commotion is to be reduced in the city.

The speaker’s comment follows the release of the Road User’s Satisfaction Survey 2016 that has revealed that 55% of Ugandans are not happy with the state of roads in the country.

This survey which was conducted by the Uganda Road Fund reveals that many Uganda still believe that the leading cause of accidents and underdevelopment is poor road network.

According to the executive director Uganda Road Fund Engineer Michael Odongo, the main reasons underpinning these results are narrow roads, potholes, poor drainage, inadequate road maintenance and dust.

While launching the survey, the speaker said that although the ministry of works receives the biggest chunk of the national budget, it still lacks effective planning.

She is now calling for separation of lanes in crowded cities like Kampala to avoid unnecessary commotion.
