The teachers strike has kicked off, leaving pupils and students stranded at different schools.

The teachers decided to lay down their tools, demanding for a 100% salary raise, among other concerns.

They are today scheduled to meet President Museveni to decide the way forward.

At Bat Valley Primary School, the pupils are in their classes but with no business being conducted.

The school’s deputy head teacher Waiswa Esau tells KFM that they could not chase the pupils away in the morning but says they will be released early afternoon.

He says they are still waiting for the response from State House on the way forward.

The school is scheduled to begin its end of term exams next week.

At Kololo High School, business is going on as usual with the students sitting their exams, though some teachers didn’t show up.

The school Deputy Head Teacher in charge of academics Lubega Bosco Eddy says they received communication about the strike late.

He says though some teachers didn’t show up today, the school continued administering the students’ exams since disruption of the school program could also lead to a students’ strike.

At Old Kampala Secondary School, all classes are closed and the students have been sent back home.
