The Nakawa Magistrates Court has further remanded Mr. Abdul-Rashid alias Njovu, who is accused of murdering two British tourists and their Ugandan guide at Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese district on October 17, 2023.

Njovu, a suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) commander, appeared before Chief Magistrate Elias Kakooza, who further remanded him until December 18, 2023, after state prosecutor Mariam Kuluthum revealed that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

The suspect was captured on November 6, 2023, during an operation by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) marine forces on Lake Edward at Katwe-Kabatoro Island, along with two other ADF suspects who were immediately killed.

Njovu is facing nine counts, including terrorism, murder, and aggravated robbery of money and travel documents belonging to the three victims. He is alleged to have carried out serious acts of violence together with others still at large.

He is accused of shooting dead Barlow David James and Geyer Emmarentia Cecilia, a newlywed British couple who had come to enjoy their honeymoon in Uganda. He is also accused of shooting their Ugandan tour guide, Mr. Eric Alyai, and burning two motor vehicles, including a cargo truck registration number UBM 624L and a tourist vehicle registration number UBF 303C.

Kyoto also faces other charges, such as being a commander in a terrorist organization (ADF) between 2018 and November 1, 2023, in various parts of the country.
