The Democratic Alliance (TDA)  Summit has failed to reach a consensus on a Joint Presidential Candidate between former premier Amama Mbabazi and FDC’s Dr Kiiza Besigye.
According to a source from the summit, the members of the Alliance will now take different paths in respect to the matter of a presidential candidate.
The decision to let go of both candidates was reached because the alliance protocol does not permit voting.
At the end of the meeting, the Conservative Party and FDC officials agreed to endorse the candidature of Kiiza Besigye, while the Democratic Party, Peoples Progressive Party, Uganda Federal Alliance, and UPC have endorsed the candidature of Amama Mbabazi.
Justice Forum (JEEMA) and former Vice President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya’s Pressure for National Unity (PNU) have not recorded their preference because their presidents were not present at the time of the decision.
The Summit will convene at an appropriate moment to consider the other aspects of TDA work in respect to cooperation in pursuing the goals and objectives of the Alliance.
