Telecom companies say effective today, communities in Bugolobi and Lugogo, Kampala district have started accessing 5G network technology after the Uganda Communication Commission granted them permission to roll out the technology.

5G is the 5th generation mobile network designed to connect devices virtually at high speeds. Telecoms say the technology is more reliable, has massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience. They also believe the current cost of data will drop once 5G is rolled out countrywide.

MTN-Uganda Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Syliva Mulinge says the Kampala laucn is just the beginning as they plan to roll out the technology across the country.

Mulinge says the 5G network will help in transforming the country’s education and health sectors by delivering quality services using modern technologies.

Early this year, the company piloted its 5G network at Hima Cement factory in Kasese.
