Uganda has received a leadership award for the implementation of the Spotlight Initiative which seeks to eliminate sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls in Uganda.

This was at the ongoing Mexico-Cancun Symposium, where Uganda through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development excelled with its interventions on ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), domestic violence, and strengthening systems among others.

Frank Mugabi, the ministry’s spokesperson says the government will continue working with other development partners like UNFPA among others to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment in line with the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
